Illinois River to River Relay

I was asked by a running friend to be part of a relay team for the Illinois River to River Relay, which takes place on April 18th. The race is a total of 80 miles long, which is divided among 8 runners. Each will run 3 legs of varying length and difficulty, totaling 9 to 11 miles.

What's very exciting is that not only will the race itself be fairly short (9-11 miles? That's nothing!), but there will be almost no expenses for me, since my friend (who is a pilot for Southwest Airlines) can get flight vouchers to St. Louis and sleeping arrangements are already made.

The only question for me was my work schedule, but the race is on a Saturday, and I checked with my supervisor, who gave me the go-ahead. Woot!

  1. BTW... I raced and returned. All went well, I had lots of fun, and we finished in 10:59:07. My legs totaled 10.5 miles, which wasn't bad at all. The first was almost completely flat, the second was difficult with a couple of long hills (but I still ran a 6:45 avg split) and the last was mostly flat with a pretty rough hill right at the end. Very nice!
